Churros

Churros

Churros are Spanish fritters. Quick and easy to make, you only have to mix water and flour to prepare the dough, and then fry. To get a sweet touch, they are sprinkled with sugar. Churros are similar to doughnuts, but instead of having a ring shape, they are long and straight or slightly curved. Churros are usually eaten with hot chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • Sugar, to decorate

Instructions

  1. Pour the cup of water in a saucepan and heat. Add a pinch of salt and one tsp of olive oil. Bring to boil.
  2. When it starts boiling, add the flour and stir thoroughly and constantly until the mixture is smooth and thick.
  3. Allow cooling until the dough is warm. Heat olive oil in a frying pan. Scoop the mixture in a piping bag with a star nozzle. When the oil is hot, pipe the mixture strips in the olive oil carefully (keep the nozzle close to the oil no to sprinkle hot oil). Every time a strip is long enough, snip it off with a pair of scissors.
  4. Fry for three minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the pan and drain on kitchen paper.
  5. Sprinkle with sugar and serve hot.
